Lying between 30°53’ to 31°09’ N and 121°35’ to 121°51’ E, Nanhui is embraced by the East Sea on the south and east with the coastline as long as 45 kilometers. With Fengxian District on the southwest, Minhang District on the west and Pudong District on the north, Nanhui covers a total area of 688 square meters, of which the water area accounts for 14.8%.
Nanhui District is a key area of new economic development in Shanghai. Located in the southeast of Shanghai, Nanhui is one of the nineteen administrative districts of Shanghai. It borders the East China Sea on the east, faces Hangzhou Bay on the south and Huangpu River on the west, and connects with Pudong New Area on the north. Nanhui covers an area of 835 square kilometers with a population of 900,000 and 60 kilometers’ coastline.
Nanhui is the largest one of the six industrial bases in Shanghai with a planned industrial area of 187 km²,and it is the base for development of Shanghai’s modern equipment manufacture industry. Several development advantages centralize here, such as Shanghai Yangshan International Deepwater Harbor, Pudong International Airport, the first Chinese bonded harbor―Yangshan Bonded Harbor, Lingang Bonded Logistics Zone and Zhuqiao Airport Bonded Logistics Zone. Based in Shanghai and open to the world, Nanhui is trying its best to build up a functional core of Shanghai international shipping center, an integrating area of advanced manufacture industry with modern equipment manufacture as its leading industry,and a modern new seaport city which combines zoology tour and culture tour together.
